Who is online marketing counselor Balázs Máté?
Who am I?
Since my father, Dr. András Máté was also a professor of SZIE (Szent István University), I have been “living” between the walls of this particular university ever since I was a small child. I also got my diploma here and started working on my PhD in 1998. Even though I have always been interested in research, I was also fascinated by the world of business, so right after getting my diploma I founded my first company, which was a leadership and marketing counseling business. This is my life of duality: I am the owner and leader of Marketing Professzorok marketing agency while I also give lectures at SZIE and participate in its researches.
Science-based applied marketing
With my agency during the last nearly two decades, we have participated in more than 500 counseling projects. These included working with large-scale state enterprises like Magyar Villamos Művek (MVM group) and OVIT Ltd.; large multinational enterprises such as Glaxo Smith Kline, ABBOTT and Sanofi Aventis; and powerful Hungarian companies like Vista Travel Agency, the Eventrend group and dozens of other multinational and large enterprises. In addition to these, we also have provided counseling to more than 400 small and medium-scale companies.
While working on these projects, I have never followed any industry trends – I have always applied the knowledge gained through extensive research (both theoretical and practical). With the help of my company and my co-workers at the university we constantly analyze the performance of current marketing tools and improve them based on our experiences.
This research has resulted in nearly 200 own test websites, which we use for SEO research and, at the same time, for helping our clients in their website development. There are few companies in Hungary today that operate on such well-established domains which contain a great amount of content, and are able to use them to help their clients, ensuring that they can rank #1 for almost any given keyword.
We have also gathered more than 2 million Facebook fans during this time, who are divided among 30-40 Facebook pages and are able to generate traffic for any website, as they do with our online magazines as well. Our online publisher currently runs 11 newspapers, which get 3 million monthly visitors.
Regretting my sins
After turning 40 I realized that the 24 hours of a single day are not nearly enough for everything and that you must choose which activities to pursue in that tight timeframe. This is true for your private and business life. Not everyone can manage being an athlete, a manager, a scientist, a good husband and father, and the “celeb” that today’s marketing industry and business life demands you to be.
Sadly I had no choice but to occasionally neglect doing sports and completely ignore building my reputation as a celeb, or, in other words, doing self-PR. I have never done any self-promotion, never written any articles about myself as many others like to do. In reality, however, I never needed to do so, as our search optimized website and, since 2009, our Facebook fans have always provided us with more work than a single, growing company could handle. Our online marketing did its job even without needing to resort to sensationalism. Thanks to our results, word spread quickly and we became known without a single paid promotion.
But why do I regret all these sins? Because I have seen that a marketing counseling company can be successful without any knowledge, experience or background. Yet, these bad feelings as soon as I see that my peers realize that the combination of our methods and tools is a system that is based on real knowledge and skills, effective and guarantees long-term success.
My scientific work
While managing my online marketing agency, Marketing Professzorok, I am also constantly working on my scientific project. I am doing my doctorate about analyzing the tools of online marketing for generating more conversions.
My scientific results are presented at international conferences and published in newspapers.
